Instagram font generator: stylish text for your bio and captions
Instagram does not let you pick a font. Every bio, caption and comment is shown in the same typeface, and that is why so many profiles look alike. This Instagram font generator gets around that in a simple way. It swaps each letter you type for a look-alike character from another alphabet, such as bold, italic, script, gothic or circled letters. You copy the result, paste it into Instagram, and it keeps its style because it is text, not an image.
Type your words in the box above and every style updates as you type. Press Copy next to the one you like, then paste it into your bio, a caption, a comment, a story text box or a direct message. You can also press Preview to see how a style will look as a profile bio before you copy it.
How to change your font on Instagram
- Type your text in the box. Short lines work best, and you can use more than one line.
- Browse the styles. Use the buttons above the list to jump between bold, script, circles, small text and more.
- Press Copy on the style you want.
- Open Instagram (the app or the website), choose Edit profile, tap the bio field and paste. The same works for captions, comments and stories.
Are these real fonts?
Not in the way a font file is. A font like the ones in our font directory is a file you install. The styles here are Unicode characters, the same standard that holds every letter, symbol and emoji. Unicode includes whole alphabets of bold, italic, script and circled letters, mostly added for mathematics and for other languages. Because they are ordinary characters, they can be copied and pasted almost anywhere, which is why they work in Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, X, Discord and many other apps.
Tips for using fancy text without hurting readability
Use it for a name or one key line
A stylish display name or the first line of a bio looks great. A whole paragraph in script or gothic letters is hard to read, especially on a small phone screen.
Keep an eye on the length
Instagram bios are limited to 150 characters, and captions to 2,200. Some styled characters count as more than one, so the preview card shows the length of the style you picked. If it goes over, shorten the text.
Do not use it for your username or hashtags
Usernames only allow letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so fancy characters are not accepted there. Hashtags written in styled letters usually do not become clickable and will not be found in search, so keep hashtags in plain text.
Think about accessibility
Screen readers often read these characters badly, for example as “mathematical bold small a”. If part of your audience uses a screen reader, keep important information, such as links, prices or contact details, in plain text and use the styled text for decoration.
Check it on your phone
Different phones draw some characters a little differently. After you paste, look at your profile on a phone before you leave it. If a letter shows as an empty box, pick another style.
Styles you can make
- Bold and italic for clear, strong headlines and names.
- Script and gothic for a cursive or old-English look, such as 𝓛𝓲𝓴𝓮 𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓼 and 𝔩𝔦𝔨𝔢 𝔱𝔥𝔦𝔰.
- Circles and boxes for a playful, sticker-like feel.
- Small caps, tiny text and upside down for quirky lines and short taglines.
- Strikethrough and underline to cross out or highlight a word.
- Decorated styles that wrap your words in stars, hearts, brackets and flourishes.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Instagram font generator free?
Yes. It is free to use, has no sign-up and no limit, and it does not add a watermark. Everything runs in your browser, so the text you type is never sent to our server.
How do I copy and paste fonts into Instagram?
Type your text, press Copy next to the style you like, then open Instagram and paste it into your bio, a caption, a comment, a story text box or a direct message. On a phone, long-press the field and choose Paste.
Are these fonts or special characters?
They are special characters from Unicode, not font files. That is why they can be copied and pasted into almost any app. It also means the look can vary slightly between phones, and a few characters may show as an empty box on very old devices.
Why does my text look different on some phones?
Each phone draws these characters with its own system fonts. Bold, italic, script and circled letters are very widely supported, while some filled circles and squares are shown as colour emoji on certain devices. Check your profile on a phone after pasting and switch style if a letter looks wrong.
Can I use fancy text in my Instagram username?
No. Instagram usernames allow only letters, numbers, periods and underscores. You can use styled text in your display name, bio, captions, comments and stories.
Will styled hashtags work?
Usually not. A hashtag written in styled letters does not become a normal hashtag, so it will not be clickable or searchable. Write hashtags in plain text.
Are fancy fonts bad for accessibility?
They can be. Screen readers often read these characters letter by letter with long descriptions. Keep important details like links, prices and contact information in plain text, and use styled text for names and short decorative lines.
Does it work for other apps such as TikTok, WhatsApp, X and Discord?
Yes, in most cases. The same copied text can be pasted into any app that supports Unicode, which includes almost all modern apps. The result can look slightly different from one app to another.
Is the text limit different with fancy characters?
Instagram currently allows 150 characters in a bio and 2,200 in a caption. Some styled characters take more space than normal letters, so check the length shown in the Bio preview box and shorten your text if it goes over.
