About Us

Fonts1 is a font directory and a small set of free text tools. You can browse typefaces, try them with your own words, read the license in plain language, and download the files, all without creating an account. We built it because finding a good font is easy, but finding out whether you may actually use it for your project is not.

What you can do here

  • Browse and preview. Every font page shows the real font file, not a screenshot. Type your own text, change the size and style, and see exactly how it looks before you download.
  • Understand the license. Each font shows its license, the original source and whether commercial use is allowed. Fonts that are only free for personal use are labelled that way.
  • Download the right format. Fonts come as TTF, OTF or WOFF2, with the license and a short README included when you download a whole family.
  • Use the tools. We offer a font image generator, calligraphy, Old English and Instagram text generators, a TTF to WOFF2 converter and a font finder from image. They run in your browser, so the text and files you use are not uploaded to us.

How the catalog is built

We only publish fonts whose redistribution rights have been checked. Many come from open-source collections such as Google Fonts, where the license (most often the SIL Open Font License) is published together with the font. For each font we keep the license name, a link to the original source and the copyright notice, and we include the license text in the download.

Technical details such as the styles, weights, glyph count and supported writing systems are read from the font files themselves rather than typed in by hand. That is why a font page can tell you, for example, whether a font really supports Bengali or Vietnamese, instead of just claiming it.

When a font cannot be redistributed, we do not host the file. We list it as a link-only entry that sends you to the official source, so you always download from the rightful owner.

Our editorial approach

The descriptions, guides and articles on this site are written to help you decide, not to push downloads. We explain what a style is good for, what to pair it with, and what to watch out for. We would rather list fewer fonts with clear information than thousands with none. New fonts are added gradually and checked before they go live.

A note on licenses

A font that is free to download is not always free to use everywhere. Some are free for personal projects only, and some need a commercial license for business work. We show what we know, but the license text itself is the final word, so please read it before you use a font commercially. Our font licensing guide explains the common terms in simple language.
